Growth Driven by Sports Betting and iGaming
Revenue from games in Denmark recorded a significant increase of 25.1% in August, compared to the same period of the previous year. This significant growth was mainly driven by the robust performance of the sports betting and iGaming markets in the country.
According to the national gaming regulator Spillemyndigheden, total revenue for August reached DKK714 million (approximately US$112 million). This value comfortably exceeds the DKK571 million recorded in August 2024 and represents a 12.6% increase compared to the DKK634 million in July this year.
Sports Betting: The Main Driver of Growth
The sports betting segment stood out as the main driver of growth in August. Revenue from this sector jumped 53.4% compared to the previous year, reaching DKK225 million. This was the highest monthly total of the year so far.
Mobile sports betting accounted for DKK160 million, representing 71.3% of all segment revenue. Computer betting generated DKK37 million, while physical stores contributed DKK27 million.
iGaming Performance Remains Strong
The iGaming sector also saw double-digit growth, with revenue rising 20.7% to DKK361 million. This segment continues to be the main source of gaming revenue in Denmark.
Online slot machines led the collection with DKK284 million, or 78.6% of the segment’s total. Online blackjack generated DKK22.5 million, followed by roulette with DKK16.9 million, poker with DKK8.6 million and bingo with DKK8.2 million. The remaining games totaled DKK21.1 million.
In-person Gaming Market: Challenges and Advances
In the in-person gaming market, slot machine revenue fell by 0.7% year-on-year, totaling DKK95 million. Of this total, DKK76.8 million came from physical machines in gaming halls and DKK18.7 million from terminals in restaurants.
On the other hand, revenue from land-based casinos increased by 4.9% to reach DKK31 million in August. This was the fifth consecutive month that the sector’s revenue exceeded DKK30 million. Furthermore, in-person bingo activities contributed DKK2 million, remaining stable compared to previous months.

Voluntary Exclusion: ROFUS Statistics
Spillemyndigheden also released data on self-exclusion during the month of August. By the end of the month, a total of 63,488 people had registered under the ROFUS scheme. Of this total, 41,362 opted for a permanent exclusion from gambling, while 22,126 chose temporary exclusion.
Since the scheme’s launch in 2012, around 65.2% of registrants have permanently blocked themselves from gambling. The second most chosen option was exclusion for six months, selected by 16.2% of users.
Total revenue for August reached DKK714 million, comfortably surpassing the DKK571 million recorded the previous year.
