The president of Chamber of DeputiesHugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), defended the increase in betting taxes to improve investments in public security and said that the measure should find broad support in the Chamber. The statements took place this Friday, the 31st, in an interview with GloboNews.
“Regarding the increase in betting taxes to finance public security, I think it is a matter that, if voted on, would have broad support within the Chamber of Deputies. We understand that there is a lack of money, yes, for security”, he stated.
The president of the Chamber added: “This will only be possible if we find measures that will help with this financing. And I think that this is a very intelligent measure so that we can increase investments in public security in this country.”
Motta said that, next week, the Chamber wants to consider a project that changes the purpose of collecting taxes on bets to allocate it to security.

Furthermore, the parliamentarian stated that the leaders should also discuss a schedule for processing the project that tightens rules against taxpayers considered persistent debtors. The matter has been processed under an emergency regime since Thursday, the 30th. The president of the Chamber said that the proposal is a “priority” on the security agenda.
In the interview, Motta defended “radicalizing” actions against organized crime and mentioned the need to suffocate financial money laundering operations.
In relation to equating crimes by criminal factions with terrorism, Motta considered: “We have to have a discussion about national sovereignty. We have to take this into consideration. But it is also impossible to think that we will confront organized crime without radicalizing it”, he declared.
