FA closes Paquetá case and only issues warning to West Ham player


The Association of England football (FAN) announced this Friday (31) the official closure of the case involving the midfielder Lucas Paquetáfrom West Ham, investigated for alleged involvement in illegal betting in the Premier League. The Brazilian received two light sanctions: a formal reprimand and a warning about future conduct, and was instructed to cooperate with possible investigations by the entity.

According to the FA statement, Paquetá will also have to pay 10% of the procedural costs, while the other 90% will be borne by the Federation itself. The values ​​were not disclosed.

The player had already been acquitted, in July, of the most serious charges, which could result in suspension or even banishment from football. With this Friday’s announcement, the case is officially closed.

Lucas Paquetá Speaks Out About English Football Federation Investigation

In a statement, West Ham United celebrated the decision and highlighted that Paquetá was found guilty only of disrespecting the FA’s rule F3, related to the conduct of players, but cleared of violating rule F5, which directly deals with match-fixing.

“West Ham United and Lucas Paquetá are happy that this case has finally been closed. The club will not make any further comments on the matter”, he added.

With the outcome, Lucas Paquetá is free to play normally for the Hammers following the season.
