COB holds II Safe Sport Forum against manipulation

THE Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) will promote, on November 12th, in Rio de Janeiro, the II Safe Sport Forum, with the aim of discussing strategies to prevent and combat match-fixing in Brazilian sport. The meeting will bring together authorities, managers, athletes and sector experts.

The event will be closed to the public and will only feature guests selected by the COB. According to the entity, the forum seeks to promote an environment of dialogue between the main actors in national Olympic sport, in addition to sharing experiences and good practices on sporting integrity, public policies and joint fraud prevention actions.

“Combating match-fixing is a priority for Brazilian Olympic sport. This Forum represents an important step towards consolidating a more ethical, transparent and safe sporting environment for athletes, managers and fans”, stated the general director of the COB, Emanuel Rego.

Among the confirmed participants are the national secretary of Sports Betting at the Ministry of Sports, Giovanni Rocco Neto; the Ethics and Compliance Policy Officer of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Donata Taddia; the Integrity officer of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), José Eduardo Gussem; in addition to representatives from the COB, international organizations and experts in sports integrity.

The program includes lectures and conversations on results monitoring, fraud prevention, athlete education and institutional responsibility. “Result manipulation compromises the essence of sport and undermines the trust of athletes, fans and sponsors. The Forum represents a strategic opportunity to build effective prevention measures”, says Sebastian Pereira, executive manager of Education, Promotion and Infrastructure at COB.

Considered one of the biggest threats to sporting credibility, the manipulation of results affects not only athletes and entities, but also fans, sponsors and society as a whole, highlighted the sports entity. The COB also reinforced that the event aims to consolidate a culture of integrity, encouraging practices that guarantee a cleaner and more responsible sport.
