THE II Safe Sport Forum brought together, this Wednesday (12), in Rio de Janeiro, authorities, managers, experts and former athletes to discuss strategies for preventing and combating match-fixing in Brazilian sport. The meeting, organized by Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), received around 160 representatives from confederations, clubs and partner institutions, and focused on public policies, education and integrity mechanisms.
The general director of the COB, Emanuel Rego, highlighted the need to keep sport ethical, transparent and fair, in addition to reinforcing the importance of training entities and athletes on the risks and consequences of manipulation.
“Results manipulation is a very important topic, which has been raised worldwide by all entities. And at COB, we are concerned with passing on this knowledge to our confederations, entities that run the sport, so that they are aware of how important this prevention is. Sport needs to be ethical, transparent, legal and fair”, analyzed Emanuel Rego.

Former athletes such as Rafael Silva and Natália Falavigna led the event, which also included the participation of the national secretary of Sports Betting, Giovanni Rocco Neto. He emphasized that cooperation between the Ministry of Sports and COB is essential to create a culture of integrity and protect the future of athletes.
“The Ministry of Sports and the Brazilian Olympic Committee, together, have a lot to contribute to building a culture of integrity in Brazilian sport by delivering knowledge to athletes, training so that they understand the consequences if they choose to manipulate results. So, the main mechanism is prevention. I believe that this cooperation between the Ministry and the COB can be very positive in protecting the integrity and future of Brazilian athletes”, said Giovanni.

The program covered topics such as ethics, integrity, legislation, monitoring and fraud prevention. National and international experts discussed codes of conduct, conflicts of interest, institutional responsibility and the use of technologies to detect irregularities. In a video, Arthur Zanetti, ambassador of the IOC’s “Believe in Sport” program, reinforced the importance of raising awareness among athletes.
During the event, the Brazilian Olympic Institute launched the course “Combating Match Manipulation – Together in Defense of Responsible Gaming”, which addresses risks, good practices and protection measures. The meeting also presented case studies on manipulation, with analyzes from experts in the area of integrity and the betting market.
The Forum was part of the actions of the Safe Sport Program, a COB initiative that promotes safe sporting environments, combats harassment, abuse and racism, and offers mandatory courses for Team Brasil athletes and teams. The proposal is to strengthen a culture of prevention and ensure that national sport continues to be a space of respect and protection for everyone involved.
