The Economic Affairs Committee (CAE) canceled the meeting in which the project that increases taxes on digital betting companies, known as bets, fintechs and banks would be analyzed this Tuesday (18).
The president of the collegiate and author of the project, senator Renan Calheiros (MDB-AL), said that the decision was taken after a conversation with the head of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), because of a signal coming from the Chamber of Deputies.
“Hugo Motta (president of the Chamber) would have said that he would not vote on the project, and then the best thing was to leave it until next week”, said Renan. The proposal’s rapporteur, Eduardo Braga (MDB-AM), had completed the analysis of possible changes to the project hours before.

The project was presented by Renan, and aims to compensate for a drop in revenue from states and municipalities due to the increase in the IR (Income Tax) exemption range. In addition to the Union, federated entities receive fractions of these resources.
The income tax project approved by Congress exempts those who earn up to R$5,000 and reduces taxes for those who earn up to R$7,350 per month. The main source of compensation is a new minimum effective tax of R$10% for those earning more than R$50,000 per month. The text is still awaiting sanction from President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
