From this Monday (17th) the Youtube changes its access policy for videos with content about betting for minors. The new restrictions will impose stricter limits on both graphic violence content in games and videos related to online gambling. The main objective of the changes is to keep underage users away from materials considered potentially harmful.
In the betting sector, the platform expands the scope of inspection: any content involving gambling, even those based solely on virtual items, such as skins, cosmetics or NFTs, will be restricted when linked to platforms not certified by Google. The measure ranges from traditional videos to live broadcasts, including mentions and demonstrations of betting services that are not endorsed by the company. For YouTube, this update follows the growth of betting types linked to digital goods.
In addition, social casino game content will be subject to the same blocking line. Since March, it was no longer allowed to mention or display betting services without Google’s approval, but now the restriction will be definitive for people under 18, even if there is no real money involved.
At the same time, YouTube also strengthens its control over videos with realistic human violence in games, seeking to reduce teenagers’ contact with scenes considered harmful. Creators are recommended to adjust their channels before the policy comes into full effect, and may have old videos removed or marked as unsuitable for minors, but without direct penalties.
With this, the platform tries to align its rules with the current scenario of electronic games and the practices adopted by the rest of the digital content industry.
With the new restrictions, the dissemination, especially of clandestine bets, should be affected, taking into account that several channels used to do live shows with game demonstrations in clandestine bets, 24 hours a day.

To Daniel Fortunecontent creator with a project aimed at raising bettors’ awareness about the risks of playing in bets, the new policies, together with other measures previously adopted, reinforce the importance of good practices within the market.
“The Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA/MF) does not allow children under 18 years of age to play in bets, so advertising should also not be aimed at this age group. Along these lines, annex of Youtube But it is clear that this restriction alone is not enough and it is increasingly necessary to educate bettors to guarantee safer and healthier gambling”, he analyzes.
In the same sense, João Fraga, CEO of Paag, warns of the importance of responsible advertising and also of improving barriers in the environment of betting houses themselves to prevent access by minors and prevent compulsive behavior.
“It is essential to take care of minors and maintain regulatory compliance to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Along these lines, we always say that it is also very important to improve responsible gaming tools, such as self-exclusion and deposit limits, but, in addition, to generate intelligence through information and interpret the player’s actions from different perspectives, to understand patterns that precede risky behavior”, he highlights.
Cristiano Costa, clinical and organizational psychologist and director of knowledge (CKO) at the Brazilian Compulsive Support Company (Ebac), highlights the care that any bet advertising must take:
“Responsible campaigns should focus on having fun with risk. And adopt rules of transparency and make visible warnings about the risk of addiction, in a similar way to what already happens in other sectors, such as alcoholic beverages and tobacco, for example. And what should happen with several other products and services that encourage unrestrained spending. Omitting this information from advertisements, in any economic sector, should be subject to sanctions by the bodies responsible for regulation and supervision in the advertising environment”, he analyzes.
