Peru closes 2 illegal betting houses that operated without a license

THE Government of Peruthrough the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) announced that it dismantled the operation of two betting houses that operated online sports betting without authorization in the regions of La Libertad and Apurímac. The action is part of the application of Law No. 31557, which regulates the operation of online games and online sports betting in the country.

During the operation carried out on November 14, 24 computers used for irregular betting were seized. The sites operated in the districts of La Esperanza (Trujillo) and Andahuaylas, where it was confirmed that the activities were occurring illegally.

Mincetur said in a statement that it will continue to intensify inspections throughout Peru, with support from the National Police, to eradicate illegal gambling and protect consumers. According to the agency, all online betting and gambling operations must be under national monitoring by 2025.

This year, according to the Peruvian government, eleven betting shops have already been closed for operating outside the law. The ministry reinforced that, according to the Peruvian Penal Code, anyone who promotes or participates in illegal gambling can face prison sentences of one to four years, in addition to administrative sanctions.
