The Federal District Court decided, this Thursday (4), to make the attacker Bruno Henriquefrom Flemishaccused of the crime of embezzlement. The accusation is related to the investigation into the athlete’s alleged participation in an online betting manipulation scheme.
The decision was taken by the 3rd Criminal Panel of the Court of Justice of the Federal District and Territories (TJDFT), and responded to an appeal from Gaeco (Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime), linked to the MPDFT (Public Ministry of the Federal District and Territories).
The player is being investigated for informing his brother, Wander Nunes Junior, that he would receive a yellow card in the game between Flamengo and Santos, for the 2023 Brazilian Championship. Wander, according to the complaint, bet on the card occurring and passed the information on to other people.
In July of this year, Bruno Henrique became a defendant in the first instance on charges of defrauding the results of a sports competition. However, the judge responsible for the case rejected the part of the complaint that accused Bruno Henrique of embezzlement.
After the decision, the Public Ministry (MP) appealed the decision and the appeal was judged today.
In the sporting sphere, the athlete was just fined by the STJD (Superior Court of Sports Justice) and continued to act normally, participating in the final stretch of this year’s Brazilian Championship and the Copa Libertadores decision.
The player’s defense said they will appeal the decision to demonstrate the error of the MP’s complaint. “The defense of athlete Bruno Henrique received with indignation the news of the trial that accepted the MPDFT’s appeal to open criminal proceedings regarding an alleged crime of embezzlement, a fact that contradicts the first instance judge’s well-founded decision,” said the defense.
