Bets generate R$27.7 billion and generate R$3.3 billion for the government

Brazil registered 25 million active bettors between January and September this year, equivalent to 12% of the population. According to unpublished data from the Ministry of Finance obtained via the Access to Information Law by Pay4Funbets on betting companies, the “bets”, generated gross revenue of R$27.7 billion, with federal revenue of R$3.3 billion in the period.

The majority of the funds raised were allocated to Sports, which received R$1.2 billion, followed by Tourism, with R$953 million, and Public Security, with R$461 million. There were also transfers to Social Security (R$347 million), Education (R$342 million) and Health (R$34 million).

Among the other beneficiaries are Civil Society, with R$16 million, the Federal Police Fund (R$18 million) and the Brazilian Industrial Development Agency (R$13 million). Of the total bettors, 68% are men and 32% women, according to the survey.

The numbers represent the impact of the regulated sports betting market in the country, which began in January this year, after the period of regulation by the federal government and the adjustment of the sector in 2024, as a result of the approval of the Bets Law in December 2023.
