Sports Commission approves inclusion of rodeos and horse racing in online betting

THE Sports Commission from the Chamber of Deputies approved, in December, a proposal that allows the inclusion of all types of rodeo and equestrian events in the online sports betting market. The text also integrates horse racing (turf) into the system, removing them from the 1984 legislation.

The substitute, presented by deputy Caio Vianna (PSD-RJ) to Bill 3388/25, by deputy Capitão Augusto (PL-SP), changes the Rodeo Law to officially recognize every modality registered by its federation as a sport. With this, the Executive Branch will be able to authorize new modalities in the betting system through regulation, without the need for a new law.

The proposal also prohibits betting on events that do not guarantee animal welfare, establishing that cruel practices cannot be the subject of betting. “We preserve sporting autonomy in the recognition of activities, as well as enabling, albeit indirectly, the desired expansion in the list of modalities authorized to receive bets”, explained the rapporteur.

The project is being processed conclusively and will still be analyzed by the Finance and Taxation and Constitution and Justice and Citizenship (CCJ) committees. To become law, the text must be approved by the Chamber of Deputies and the Federal Senate.
