CCT approves text that prohibits advertising from betting houses

THE Science and Technology Commission (CCT) of Senate approved this Wednesday (4) the project that prohibits the advertising of sports betting and online games throughout the national territory. The proposal amends the Sports Betting Law and also prevents the promotion of bets related to election results. The project now goes for analysis at the CCJ.

The approved text was authored by Senator Damares Alves (Republicanos-DF), who presented a substitute for PL 3,563/2024, by Senator Randolfe Rodrigues (PT-AP). The project is being processed in conjunction with PL 3,586/2024, by senator Jorge Kajuru (PSB-GO), which also deals with the ban on electoral betting.

In his opinion, Damares stated that the measure seeks to “impose clear limits on the commercial activities of betting houses and prevent the exploitation of the electoral environment by this type of activity”, highlighting the relationship between betting addiction and the worsening of mental disorders. The senator also cited the work of the CPI das Bets as a reference for the proposal.

During the meeting, senator Efraim Filho (União-PB) mentioned the concerns of sports clubs about the possibility of exceptions for sponsorship in Olympic sports. Damares stated that he hopes that, in the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ), the text will be unified with other similar proposals, in order to consider these demands.
