Lula meets with Gonet to discuss investigations into bets and banks

THE President Lula met, this Thursday morning (12), with the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, to discuss ongoing investigations involving the sports betting sector, the “bets”, and financial institutions. The information was revealed by Estadão/Broadcast.

According to sources heard by the newspaper, the president expressed concern about the progress of the investigations and asked Gonet for technical rigor in the investigations conducted by the Federal Public Ministry (MPF). The sources did not mention specific cases, but indicated that the meeting dealt with the general scenario of investigations involving these two segments.

The meeting was not on the president’s official agenda. The meeting was agreed during the opening ceremony of the judicial year, held on February 2, and took place on the same day that news was made public that associated the STF minister, Dias Toffoli, with Banco Master and the banker Daniel Vorcaro.

Behind the scenes, Palácio do Planalto has avoided any approach to the crisis involving Banco Master and the Federal Supreme Court. Presidential advisors have avoided commenting on the case publicly so as not to associate the government with the controversy affecting the Judiciary.
