Reporter states that the University of Sport should start operating in 2027

Representative Julio Cesar Ribeiro (Republicanos-DF) defended the creation of the Federal University of Sport (UFE), approved by the Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday (10). In an interview with Radio Chamberthe project rapporteur highlighted that the institution will be a milestone for the development of professional training and research in the sports area in Brazil.

According to the parliamentarian, the public university, which will be based in Brasília, will contribute to training managers, strengthening public policies and encouraging innovation in sport.

“We need to train our managers because they often lack this technical base, the knowledge that they have often acquired in practice, which is very important, but we also need to have the main concepts, which only come through the university”, said Ribeiro.

Julio Cesar Ribeiro explained that UFE’s financing should come from the Union Budget, in addition to agreements, partnerships and own revenues. He also highlighted that resources from sports betting could form part of the new institution’s budget.

The university, which could begin operating in 2027, will aim to promote gender equality, inclusion of people with disabilities and combat discrimination and violence in sport.

The rapporteur also highlighted that the project is the result of joint work between the Ministry of Sports, the Ministry of Education and parliamentarians linked to the sports sector.

“It is not an electoral project, but rather a project that was built by several hands between the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Sports, by the government, and us who are representatives of the sports area.”

The proposal, which creates the first university in the Americas entirely focused on sports, now goes to the Senate for analysis.
