Clubs could lose R$842 million with a ban on betting advertising

The proposal being analyzed in the Senate that provides for the advertising ban of sports betting companies, “bets”, in Brazilian football can cause a significant financial impact to clubs in Series A of the Brazilian Championship. According to estimates, the loss from the measure could exceed R$842 million per year. The survey was published in a report by Look.

The text recently approved in the Science and Technology Commission (CCT), now goes to the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) for analysis. The proposal amends the Sports Betting Law and provides for the prohibition of advertising bets in the media, sports broadcasts and club sponsorships.

Clubs and sponsorships

Currently, around 60% of elite Brazilian football clubs have commercial contracts with companies in the betting sector. Among the teams mentioned as impacted are Flamengo, Fluminense, Botafogo, Palmeiras, Corinthians, São Paulo, Red Bull Bragantino, Chapecoense, Cruzeiro, Atlético, Vitória and Remo, which maintain sponsorship agreements with “bet” brands.

According to experts interviewed by the report, the ban on advertising could compromise revenues already incorporated into the clubs’ budgets, since many of them have structured part of their finances based on these sponsorships. In 2025, dozens of teams even released a manifesto stating that the restriction could generate an immediate loss of up to R$1.6 billion in the Brazilian football industry.

Debate on regulation and security

Consultants and sector representatives argue that the focus of the legislation should be on repressing abusive advertising and the activities of clandestine companies, instead of a total ban that affects clubs and the regularized market. For them, clearer and more proportionate rules are more effective in protecting the public and ensuring the sustainability of the sector.

“What must be repressed is abusive advertising and, mainly, that carried out by clandestine companies”, explains Bernardo Cavalcanti Freire, legal consultant at ANJL and partner at Betlaw.

“Clear and proportional rules are important to protect the public and consolidate a transparent and sustainable market for everyone involved,” said Nickolas Tadeu Ribeiro de Campos, founder and chairman of the board of Ana Gaming, holding company for the brands 7K Bet, Cassino Bet and Vera Bet.

The proposal continues to be processed in the Senate and may still undergo changes before being voted on in plenary. If approved, the measure should substantially change the scenario of sponsorship and exposure of betting brands in Brazilian football.
