THE government of Sweden announced the appointment of Peter Knutsson as the new director general of the Swedish Gambling Authority (Spelinspektionen). The director will assume the position with a six-year term, leading the authority responsible for supervising the regulated betting and gaming market in the country.
Knutsson will replace the interim management led by Johan Röhr, who held the position since the departure of former general director Camilla Rosenberg in 2025. Röhr will continue to monitor the transition process and assist the new director during the beginning of his term.

The authority’s president, Madelaine Tunudd, highlighted Knutsson’s professional experience and positively evaluated the government’s choice.
“With the solid experience that Peter Knutsson has, gained, among other things, at the Ministry of Finance, in consumer affairs and, more recently, at the Advertising Ombudsman, this will be very good for the authority,” said Tunudd.
Johan Röhr confirmed that he will work directly in the administrative transition to ensure continuity in the entity’s activities.
“I welcome the government’s decision on a new Director General for the Swedish Gambling Authority and will ensure that Peter Knutsson receives a good introduction during my transition of roles as acting Director General,” he stated.
THE Spelinspektionen is responsible for regulating and monitoring the gaming and betting market in Sweden, including granting licenses, combating illegal gambling and implementing consumer protection policies. The appointment comes at a time of intensification of regulatory actions and strengthening supervision of the sector in the country.
