THE Lula government studies restricting access to sports betting platforms for Brazilians who join the new debt renegotiation program, a new version of Desenrola Brasil. The proposal was presented by the Minister of Finance, Dario Duriganafter meeting with the PT bench in the National Congress, reveals a report from Power360.
According to the minister, the idea is to prevent beneficiaries from falling back into debt after renegotiating their financial issues. “What we have been discussing, and what I have heard with a lot of echo from the PT bench, is to have a counterpart in which we limit people’s subsequent indebtedness, for example, with bets and digital bets, so that we don’t defraud people and, in a subsequent act, they go back into debt”, said the minister.

The new Desenrola Brasil should focus mainly on debts considered more expensive, such as revolving credit cards, special checks and direct consumer credit. The economic team is also evaluating the possibility of using FGTS resources as a guarantee for debt refinancing, in discussion with the Ministry of Labor and Employment.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the program will have different lines aimed at families, informal workers, individual microentrepreneurs (MEIs) and small businesses. The objective is to renegotiate debts and offer more favorable conditions to reduce the debt level of Brazilian families, which is currently at a high level, according to recent market data.
The initiative is part of a set of government measures to reduce debt and expand access to credit with more sustainable conditions, including mechanisms to avoid new debts after renegotiation.
