Lula says government wants to ban online casinos in Brazil

THE President Lula stated that the government intends to act to ban online casinos in Brazil. The statement was made during a speech on national radio and television this past Saturday (7), due to International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8.

In his speech, the president criticized the growth of betting on internet casino games and mentioned popular platforms on social media, such as the so-called “tigrinho game”. According to Lula, the practice has caused financial losses for Brazilian families.

According to the president, many people end up compromising income intended for basic expenses when participating in online games. He stated that money that should be used for food, rent and other needs ends up being spent on bets made via cell phone.

“Another drama that affects Brazilian homes is gambling addiction. Although the majority of addicts are men, the bill falls on women. It’s the money for food, rent, and children’s school fees that disappears on the cell phone screen. Casinos are banned in Brazil. It doesn’t make sense to allow Tigrinho’s Games to enter homes, putting families in debt via cell phone,” said Lula.

Lula also declared that he intends to discuss the issue with other Powers to face the problem. According to him, the intention is to prevent virtual casino platforms from continuing to operate in the country.

“We will work by uniting the Government, Congress and the Judiciary so that these digital casinos do not continue to put families in debt and destroy homes,” continued the president.

According to The Globethe president’s assistants assess that the statement is part of a strategy to reinforce the government’s communication with female voters, considered one of the most relevant segments for the 2026 presidential race.
