THE Gambling Commission of the United Kingdom has announced the appointment of Sue Young as its new chief operating officer. The executive takes on the role with the mission of leading strategic areas of the regulatory body, responsible for supervising the gaming and betting sector in the European country.
Sue Young comes to the Commission after working at HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), where she was director of debt management. Throughout his career, he has accumulated experience in leadership positions in the British public sector, with stints at the Home Office, including roles related to the Border Force, as well as HM Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services and the Department of Health and Social Care.
In his new role, Young will be responsible for leading the Commission’s various operations, at a time when the body is intensifying actions to make the gaming sector safer, fairer and free from criminal activities. Among the priorities are combating the illegal market and strengthening regulatory measures.

The Commission’s interim executive director, Sarah Gardner, highlighted the importance of the appointment. According to her, Sue Young’s experience in operational leadership will be essential to continue the work in progress, especially in the areas of inspection and compliance with standards.
“It is with great pleasure that I welcome Sue to the Gambling Commission. There is a lot of important work underway across our operational teams, particularly our continued focus on combating the illegal market and delivering strong regulatory outcomes. Sue brings with her a wealth of operational leadership experience and I look forward to working with her.”
In a statement, Sue Young stated that she is excited about the new challenge and highlighted the Commission’s role in protecting consumers. The executive also highlighted the interest in deepening knowledge about the sector and contributing to the continuity of the organization’s regulatory actions.
