Loto Potiguar, the state lottery of Rio Grande do Norte, has entered the final phase of implementation and should begin operating by the middle of 2026, according to information from the State Department of Finance (Sefaz), to the newspaper Northern Tribune.
According to the state government, the start of operations depends on the completion of the final stages of operator accreditation and the technical validation of the systems by specialized laboratories. These measures are considered essential to ensure legal certainty, technical compliance and user protection.
The planning foresees that, initially, the prediction and instant modalities will come into operation, with the subsequent inclusion of other lottery categories. The fixed-odd betting modality (bets) is already structured and with an accreditation notice in progress.
“State planning foresees that, by the middle of 2026, the prognostic and instant lottery modalities will be in operation, with subsequent structuring of the passive modality, in accordance with the strategic guidelines defined for the sector”, said Sefaz-RN.
“The first modality already structured is Fixed Odds Betting (Bets), whose accreditation notice is in progress, with important stages already completed, which allows us to move forward safely towards the start of operations”, he informed.
Currently, two laboratories have been accredited to certify operational systems, in addition to six institutions responsible for payment methods. The analysis of companies interested in operating the lottery continues, without publishing the final list of qualified candidates.
Loto Potiguar was created by law sanctioned in June 2025, which authorized the exploitation of the service in both physical and digital media. The model adopted is indirect exploration, in which the State maintains regulation and supervision, while the operation will be carried out by accredited private companies.
The legislation also established the State Lottery Fund, which will receive revenue from the activity and prize amounts not redeemed within the legal deadline.
The government’s expectation is to raise around R$25 million in 2026, considering the gradual entry of the modalities throughout the year.
“This revenue projection considers the progressive entry of lottery modalities and reflects the Government’s commitment to generating public revenue in a responsible, transparent and sustainable way”, highlighted Sefaz-RN.
