THE Senate Sports Committee approved this Wednesday (6) Bill 6,124/2025, which allocates part of the revenue from online sports betting, the so-called bets, to the Military Sports Commission of the Ministry of Defense.
The proposal, authored by Senator Leila Barros (PDT-DF), amends Law No. 13,756/2018 to redistribute resources collected from fixed-odd bets. According to the text, 1 percentage point of the portion currently allocated to the Ministry of Sports will now be directed to military sport.
The project was reported by senator Chico Rodrigues (PSB-RR) and is now being analyzed by the Economic Affairs Commission (CAE).
During the discussion of the proposal, Leila Barros stated that the Armed Forces maintain high-performance athletes, including Olympic participants, in addition to developing social projects linked to sport.
According to the parliamentarian, programs such as Forças no Esporte offer school support and social inclusion activities for children and adolescents.
“They do beautiful work (in the Forces in Sports Program), which involves school reinforcement. That environment provides a feeling of protection, of discipline. And we know, due to budgetary issues, that the Armed Forces have a restricted budget”, said the senator.
The author of the project also highlighted that the proposal does not create a tax increase for betting operators, as it only modifies the division of resources already collected by the sector.
The rapporteur of the matter argued that the measure increases the participation of military sports in the distribution of betting revenue, a model already adopted in other areas of the National Sports System.
Currently, part of the revenue from regulated betting in Brazil is allocated to areas such as sport, tourism, public security, education and social security.
