46% of Brazilian bettors use bets to earn extra income

MPRN blocks R$ 145 million in investigation against irregular exploitation of bets in Bodó

According to research by Datafolha, almost half (46%) of players on online betting platforms say they bet on bets and online casinos with the aim of obtaining extra income or helping to pay bills and monthly expenses.

The survey, carried out between the 8th and 9th of April with 2,002 people in 117 municipalities. According to Datafolha, the margin of error is two percentage points up and down, within the 95% confidence level.

Bettor Profile

The research shows that 10% of the Brazilian population aged 16 or over has the habit of betting. The habit is more pronounced in specific sections:

Gender: Men bet twice as much as women (14% versus 7%).

Education and Income: The predominant profile is young people with completed secondary education and a monthly income of up to two minimum wages (R$3,242).

Frequency and Behavior

Of the total number of respondents, 10% declared that they were in the habit of betting in “bets” or virtual casinos. The frequency of use is divided as follows:

High frequency: 2%

Occasionally: 4%

Rarely: 4%

The survey also quantified the impact of betting on the budget: 5% of all interviewees stated that they had already bet with the aim of earning income for immediate bills, while 1% reported having used resources that were already destined to pay fixed expenses for the month to place the bets.
