Federal Revenue collects R$3.3 billion from bets in the 1st quarter of 2026

THE Federal Revenue of Brazil (RFB) released this Tuesday (28) the balance of federal revenue collection for March 2026. According to the data, the federal government collected R$3.397 billion from taxation of the sports betting and online gaming sector in the first quarter of this year.

The information was presented during a press conference held at the Ministry of Finance, in Brasília.

In comparison with the same period in 2025, when revenue totaled R$1.519 billion, the growth was 123.6%. The advance is related to the start of the regulated betting market in Brazil, which came into force on January 1, 2025.

Considering only the first three months of 2026, January recorded the highest collection, with R$1.496 billion. In February, the value fell to R$1.042 billion, while March closed at R$859 million. Between January and March, the reduction was 42.6%.

The numbers were detailed by the head of the Center for Tax and Customs Studies at the Federal Revenue, Claudemir Malaquias, and by the agency’s Forecast and Analysis coordinator, Marcelo Gomide, during a broadcast on the Ministry of Finance’s official channel.

Data from the first months of 2026 do not yet reflect the increase in the rate applicable to the sector, approved at the end of 2025, due to the nineteen-year period provided for by law. According to the new rule, the rate will increase from 12% to 13% in 2026, rise to 14% in 2027 and reach 15% in 2028.

With the end of the nineteen, the effects of the increase in the tax burden should begin to appear in the statistics released from May onwards.
